N3 employees – highly motivated, global thinkers and lovers of their home region
N3 Engine Overhaul Services currently employs a good 400 men and women. The workforce at N3 in Arnstadt consists of people originating from eleven countries spread over four continents. More than 80 per cent of the workforce is from the Ilm-Kreis District or from Thuringia. For almost one-fifth of the N3 employees, the setting up of the N3 facility represented a chance to return to their home region.
A highly motivated team has been formed in Arnstadt. This can be gathered from the success quota of almost 100 per cent enjoyed by N3’s qualification programme. One of the decisive factors leading to the choice of Arnstadt as the location was the potential of the highly qualified personnel already existing in the local electrical and metalworking industries. A unique qualification programme in order to train these experts for jobs in the aviation industry was called in to being and put into practice. A total of 350 employees completed this programme in the course of three years. N3 also offers perspectives to engineers and specialists with particular skills. Engineers at N3 are deployed in a wide variety of fields ranging from engine testing and production planning through to quality assurance.
Bilingualism and continuous further education
Bilingualism is one of the company’s outstanding characteristics. The engine documentation, the commissions and the work processes are all written in English. The daily contact with international customers and contact persons at our parent company, Rolls Royce, mean that all employees are required to have a good working knowledge of English. The challenge of proving themselves anew every day with their specialist knowledge in this international environment is one that has been accepted with great verve by the N3 workforce. To this end they are required to undergo continuous further education courses in order to keep up with the rapid developments in the aviation industry.

They are an important basis for activities in which the quality of the work done signifies the greatest degree of safety in air traffic. Participation in the company’s success
All N3 employees have a stake in the company’s success. The company’s performance is determined with the aid of a system of indices, the so-called Key Performance Indicators (KPI). The achievement of the company’s goals ensures its ability to compete on the market. Every team and every single employee is responsible for the attainment and realisation of the company’s goals. On the basis of the extent to which these goals have been attained the company pays its workforce a bonus once a year.

An investment in the future: N3 apprenticeships
N3 Engine Overhaul Services began with its professional training in the technical field in September 2008. Today twelve apprentices, among them are two young women, learn to become aircraft mechanics specialising in engine technology. Training in the commercial field began shortly after the official opening of the plant in 2007 already. A total of six apprentices in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd years of training are currently working in that programme at N3.
Technical and commercial professional training is an important instrument in order to ensure our supply of specialist workforce in the future. N3 offers young people a modern, internationally-oriented apprenticeship with excellent opportunities for learning and further development.
In the first few years of its existence N3 has provided proof that, with the help of a new, young team, it is possible to take on great challenges and master them within a short time. Commitment, flexibility and the quality of the work done have long since become a trademark of N3.
