Arnstadt, April 11, 2012. Five years of engine overhauling at Arnstadt: On April 5, 2007, a few days before the Easter holidays, the Luftfahrtbundesamt (LBA) had granted N3 Engine Overhaul Services (N3) permission to take up operations. Ever since, the joint venture of Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce has very successfully overhauled big engines of the types Rolls-Royce Trent 500, Trent 700 and Trent 900 which are used in the Airbus models A330, A340 and A380.
Since April 2007 the company has disassembled, revised, repaired and tested 330 aircraft engines. Back then the company had 250 employees; today it has 500, almost twice as much. The graduates of the technical training courses are among the best of their profession. Director and General Manager Andrew Dickinson is very happy with the achievements of his team: “In a short time, N3 Engine Overhaul Services has established a great reputation in the global engine maintenance network of its parental companies. N3 stands for quality, efficiency, flexibility and reliability.“
N3 settling down at the Erfurter Kreuz gave enormous momentum to the entire region. Once N3 had opted for this location, many other companies established facilities in this biggest commercial region of the German state of Thuringia.

N3 Engine Overhaul Services is a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and Rolls-Royce plc. The company has its headquarters in Arnstadt in the German region of Thuringia. It was set-up in 2003 and in early April 2007 took up operations in the new facilities. The name N3 points to the typical construction of Rolls-Royce-Trent engines with three shafts rotating at different speeds. N3 is the sole European engine overhaul company in Europe to overhaul the Rolls-Royce engine types Trent 500 and Trent 700 and, since July 2010, also the Trent 900. These engines drive the Airbus models A340, A330 and A380. N3 services airlines in the core markets of Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Community of Independent States. The company is one of the most modern overhaul operations of the world. Further to engine overhaul, the repair of individual engine parts today already extends the service portfolio of N3. Presently, N3 employs 455 employees plus 30 apprentices (status per end of 2011).
