Arnstadt, 28 July 2026. With investments exceeding €150 million, N3 Engine Overhaul Services is sending a strong signal for the future of the aviation industry in Thuringia. These investments will enable the company to continue its growth and meet the increasing global demand for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of modern Rolls-Royce engines.
A visible milestone in this long-term commitment is today's topping-out ceremony for the new logistics centre. The building is one of the largest sub-projects within N3's growth programme, designed to further develop the company's production and logistics capabilities for the future.
"When we began reimagining the future of our site in early 2022, one key question guided us: How can we create the conditions for continued success over the next ten or twenty years? Today's topping-out ceremony for the final major construction phase of our site expansion demonstrates how that vision is becoming reality step by step. These investments are a strong commitment by our shareholders, Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce, to N3, our employees and the business location of Thuringia. This is something we can all be proud of," says Stefan Landes, Managing Director of N3 Engine Overhaul Services.
Around one year after construction began, the project has now reached its next major milestone. Construction is progressing according to schedule. Once operational, the new logistics centre will consolidate all material flows at the Arnstadt site, further optimise processes and significantly improve the efficiency of production supply.
An aircraft engine consists of up to 20,000 individual parts – ranging from multi-tonne modules to the smallest screws. To ensure every component is available at the right place and at the right time, N3 will rely on state-of-the-art logistics solutions in the future. The new facility will combine goods receiving, warehouse areas, office and social facilities, as well as a Customer Delivery Centre, under one roof. At its heart will be a fully automated high-bay warehouse approximately 26 metres high. This will be complemented by 24 automated vertical storage lifts, accelerating material flows and supporting further optimisation of logistics processes.
The logistics centre forms a key element of N3's overall growth programme. In addition, the company has already commissioned new production areas, expanded its cleaning facility for engine components and created additional modern office and working environments. Together, these investments provide the foundation for continuously expanding N3's production and logistics capacities and achieving its target of more than 270 engine overhauls per year.
With more than 1,300 employees, N3 is one of Thuringia's largest industrial employers. Investments in modern infrastructure, digitalisation and production capacity underline the shareholders' long-term confidence in the Arnstadt site while simultaneously strengthening the attractiveness of the entire region as a business location.
"A project of this scale can only succeed when many people work towards a common goal with passion and commitment," says Landes. "I would like to sincerely thank all our colleagues, project partners, construction companies and everyone involved for driving this project forward with such dedication. With our new logistics centre, we are creating the foundation for N3 to remain a strong partner for our customers, an attractive employer in the region and a reliable pillar of Germany's aviation industry well into the future."
